Open Gardens allows keen gardeners to share their passion, while helping people in crisis. Meanwhile, you can go along for a nosey – and maybe get a cup of tea and slice of cake. Other gardens go even further and offer cream teas, light lunches, plant sales, treasure trails and more.

You’re in for a real treat this year. There are more gardens opening for the British Red Cross than ever before. The reason why people open their garden is to share their much-loved plot and raise valuable funds to support our work.
We are constantly amazed by the efforts of our wonderful garden owners. You’ll find pocket-sized town plots and country cottage gardens among this year’s offerings – each and every one of them different but equally intriguing. Some garden owners offer teas and plant sales, and others, music and canapés. Expect the unexpected and enjoy a relaxed and informative visit.
Last year, while serving tea in a garden, I had the chance to talk to many visitors. I was amazed how far and wide they had travelled to get there. Many had found a garden through word of mouth. So, this year I ask you to spread the word about our wonderful scheme. Thank you to everyone involved – garden visitors, garden owners and volunteers. You all make our scheme work and for that the whole team are truly grateful.
