Baileygate House is a charming town house in the heart of historic Alnwick. A few paces from Alnwick Castle and Gardens, it’s ideal to leave the car at the door and explore great inde shopping, markets & museums, antiques & art, restaurants & cafes, bookshops, theatre & cinema, leisure centre and more – or to tour the spectacular coast, sweeping countryside, ancient castles and surrounding villages.

Dating from around 1769, and located on the peaceful, tree lined street of Bailiffgate, Baileygate House was fully restored in 2009. It sits within the central Medieval and Georgian quarter of Alnwick, a short walk from the west tower of Alnwick Castle, made famous by many movies, among them Harry Potter and Downton Abbey. It’s the perfect location for a self catered holiday to enjoy everything this thriving traditional market town rich in history and tales of Kings and Knights has to offer. It’s also a few minutes walk to fine countryside, a 10-minute drive to beautiful beaches, and adjacent to woodland and pasture associated with the castle estate, the River Aln and the stunning Capability Brown walled Hulne Park – 3000 acres of parkland, and the site of the White Friar statue, Hulne Priory, Brizlee Tower and Alnwick Abbey.

Baileygate House can accommodate up to 4 adults, or 4 adults and two children in three bedrooms. Its careful restoration revealed inglenook fireplaces and beamed roof, all to a luxury standard, with full kitchen, one en-suite shower room, and one bathroom with whirlpool bath and separate shower, two wood-burning stoves in each of the day rooms, and a small courtyard garden accessed from the kitchen and historically known as “nurse’s yard”. The kitchen / dining room features the beautiful original 18th century blonde sandstone wall, all modern kitchen facilities including belfast sink, and large dining table with pew and five chairs. The lounge is cosy and informal with soft chairs, tv, dvd, games and books.

We regret that due to the historic nature of the house it has not been possible to provide for disabled access. The toilets are upstairs and there are 2 steps to the street entry. Strictly no smoking or furry four legged friends. On street permit parking is available during your stay. There is a high chair and stair gate available with small children.
