Shrove Tuesday Football at Alnwick Castle

Every year on Shrove Tuesday

Commencing at 2pm on Shrove Tuesday every year, the Duke of Northumberland starts the 'game' by throwing the football from the battlements of the Alnwick Castle barbican to the waiting crowd below. The game continues downhill to the pastures and is played on the pastures and the river Aln below the castle.
Spectators are welcome - but don't get too close!

Festival of Alnwick: In Celebration of London 2012

Includes the overnight visit of the Olympic Torch on Thursday, June 14.

The medieval market town of Alnwick, Northumberland, will have a blast celebrating the visit of the Olympic Torch and invites the world to join it. A week-long festival of sport, music, arts, dance and heritage will produce a buzz like you’ve never experienced. All the famous events the town hosts –including the international music festival, food festival, town criers competition, the former Alnwick Fair and the Shrovetide football match – will be showcased. Britain’s Best Market Town (BBC Countryfile magazine) is home of Harry Potter’s Hogwarts (Alnwick Castle), Google Street View’s Best Shopping Street and some of the friendliest folk in the country. 2012 Saturday the 7th of July

The Provincial Booksellers Fairs Association will be holding their 2nd fantastic Book Fair in the Northumberland Hall, Alnwick, on Saturday the 7th July 2012 between 10am and 4.30pm. There will be many specialist book sellers attending the fair with hundreds of 'collectable' and rare books available. All will be in very good to excellent condition.

The Provincial Fairs Booksellers Association has a full calendar of events all over the UK.
For 2012 we are pleased to present the 2nd Alnwick Book Fair.

2012 starts 4th August until 11th August.

8 days of events, 250 entertainers from around the world, a grand costumed event with dancers in traditional costume with traditional music. Evening concerts in the Playhouse, and dances each evening in the Northumberland Hall. Most events are centered around the Market place.

Rennington is a picturesque village on the coastal route B1340 just 8 min's drive from Alnwick.
Every August Bank Holiday weekend they celebrate in eccentric style with a wonderful tongue in cheek "Scarecrow Festival" The majority of the village turn out with their own version of a topical or literary scene for your enjoyment. There will be stalls and refreshments daily

Michelin-starred chef Jean-Christophe Novelli will be starring at the friendliest food festival in the medieval market town of Alnwick, Northumberland, for a second year. More than 30,000 people enjoyed the 2011 Alnwick Food Festival, the seventh, with free admission to top-class entertainment, cookery demonstrations by local chefs and a bustling market square offering a wide range of local produce for sale.
