Shrove Tuesday Football at Alnwick CastleShrove Tuesday Football at Alnwick Castle

Every year on Shrove Tuesday

Commencing at 2pm on Shrove Tuesday every year, the Duke of Northumberland starts the 'game' by throwing the football from the battlements of the Alnwick Castle barbican to the waiting crowd below. The game continues downhill to the pastures and is played on the pastures and the river Aln below the castle.
Spectators are welcome - but don't get too close!

Local food and craft fair in Rothbury - featuring local food and recipes together with local crafts. A popular well tended event.

Mighty Dub FestMighty Dub Fest

The most Northern VW weekend festival in England.
Set overlooking the most famous location Alnwick Castle, Northumberland. Fully packed family entertainment, trade stands, Live music and 3 bars. This year its all about flower power and summer of love.

Friday 15th to Sunday 17th of July 2016

This is a well-established Traditional Country Music Fair in Rothbury - featuring pipes, fiddles, bodrun, guitars, folk singing, and dialect poetry. A full weekend of fantastic folk!

8 days of events, 250 entertainers from around the world, a grand costumed event with dancers in traditional costume with traditional music. Evening concerts in the Playhouse, and dances each evening in the Northumberland Hall. Most events are centered around the Market place.

Rennington Scarecrow FestivalRennington Scarecrow Festival

Bank Holiday Monday 29th August 2016

Rennington is a picturesque village on the coastal route B1340 just 8 min's drive from Alnwick.
Every August Bank Holiday weekend they celebrate in eccentric style with a wonderful tongue in cheek "Scarecrow Festival" The majority of the village turn out with their own version of a topical or literary scene for your enjoyment. There will be stalls and refreshments daily
10am - 4.30pm. Come along for a great laugh!

Traditional Music Concerts

Andrew & Margaret will be playing Northumbrian Smallpipes and Fiddle concerts in venues along the north Northumberland coast, from Holy Island to Craster (Admission: £7.50 - under 12 free) - highly popular with visitors to the area, many of whom have never had the opportunity to see and hear the smallpipes at close quarters, nor to hear about our traditional songs, dances and legends.
